USNC-URSI Commission Membership

USNC-URSI Commission Membership Overview

Individuals can become members of one or more of the ten USNC-URSI Commissions. There is no cost to becoming a member and there are no dues. However, individuals must demonstrate interest and participation in USNC-URSI and URSI-related activities, such as presenting their work at USNC-URSI and URSI-sponsored meetings (e.g., the National Radio Science Meeting, or NRSM), and a strong record of peer-reviewed publications on URSI-relevant topics. The benefits of becoming a member of one or more Commissions include a discounted registration fee for attending the annual NRSM and jointly-sponsored conferences with the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S), eligibility to serve in leadership positions, eligibility to vote on topics relating to the commission(s) as a Full Member, and notifications of USNC-URSI activities and opportunities.

These Membership Guidelines explain how an individual may become a member of these USNC-URSI Commissions. If you have interest in joining one or more of these Commissions, please contact a current member or chair(s) of the Commission(s) you are interested in joining to discuss your eligibility. Current Commission members may nominate new members by completing this application, and email it to the relevant Commission Chair(s) to which you are applying. Self-nominations are encouraged after consulting with the Commission Chair. New members are typically elected during Commission Business meetings held in conjunction with the NRSM or NARSM.

Early Career Membership

In particular, USNC-URSI actively encourages students and those who are in the early stages of their careers (within 10 years of their last degree) to apply for an early career membership. Early Career Members must only have coauthored one USNC-URSI or URSI presentation, and they must have attended one USNC-URSI symposium. Otherwise, early career members must reside in the U.S.; however, no citizenship or permanent residency is required.

International Membership Options

Lastly, separately from USNC-URSI, international URSI also offers an individual membership, which you can explore here.
