International URSI Awards

Seven URSI awards are presented during the Opening Ceremony of each URSI General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (GASS). The next URSI GASS will be held in Krakow, Poland on August 16, 2026.

Call For Nominations

USNC-URSI is seeking nominations from members for all seven URSI awards. Consider nominating a colleague or asking another USNC-URSI member to nominate you. Submit nominations to both the USNC-URSI Chair (Jamesina Simpson) jamesina.simpson@utah.edu and USNC-URSI Awards Chair (Sembiam Rengarajan) sembiam.rengarajan@csun.edu.

The next deadline for submitting nominations is July 1, 2025. The USNC-URSI awards committee will evaluate the nominees and recommend one nominee for each award. The recommended candidates will be nominated for the URSI awards by the Chair of the USNC-URSI (by the URSI's submission deadline of Aug. 15, 2025).

The rules governing these Awards can be downloaded here (PDF).

A nomination form is also available for download here (MsWord). Note that this form has been revised and nominations now require supporting cases. This form is to be used to nominate candidates for the URSI Early Career and Senior Awards. Also, it is the responsibility of the Nominator to coordinate the submission.

Please note that:

  • Only addressees of the invitation letter from the URSI Secretary General may nominate candidates. These include the Presidents of the Member Committees; the Commission Chairs, Vice-Chairs, and ECRs; former URSI Laureates and URSI Fellows.
  • Each can submit up to seven candidates, one for each award.
  • A senior award is for career achievements.
  • Consistent with the above, we encourage you to consider candidates unsuccessfully nominated at any previous GASS.
