Description

Commission C emphasizes the scientific aspects of radiofrequency (RF) theory and applications, provides enabling technologies to other areas of radio science, and designs effective RF and signal-processing systems. Designs of effective RF and signal-processing systems include scientific, engineering, and economic considerations. In particular, Commission C promotes research and development in:

  • Radio communication systems (IoT, 5G, NextG, MIMO, MISO);
  • Information theory, coding, modulation, and detection theory and applications;
  • Spectrum and medium utilization (cognitive and cooperative techniques, electromagnetic spectral harmony);
  • Wireless networking;
  • Radar (software-defined, cognitive, distributed, imaging, synthetic-aperture, ground-penetrating, ultrawideband, target detection, localization, tracking, space-time processing);
  • Distributed, multiple-modality, electromagnetic, autonomous systems;
  • Radio-localization and navigation systems;
  • Convergence of multiple RF modalities (communication, radar, sensing, calibration, surveillance, etc.);
  • Waveform diversity;
  • Simultaneous transmission and reception (STAR);
  • Signal and image processing and information extraction;
  • Green and energy-efficient operation of RF systems;
  • Computational imaging and inverse methods;
  • Applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to RF systems and signal processing;
  • Electromagnetic modeling of systems and environments;
  • Sensor networks, sensor-array processing, and calibration;
  • Ultrawideband communication, radar, surveillance, interference.
